The New Innkeepers are In!

Al and Lindsay Schmurr are now the new owners and operators of the Pilgrim’s Inn & Whale’s Rib Tavern! We would like to introduce ourselves! We moved to Maine from the Midwest to follow our dreams of owning an inn on the East Coast. We were lucky enough to come across the Pilgrim’s Inn at just the right time and knew it was fate. This beautiful, historical Inn is the perfect place for us to call home and raise our family.

Before we met, Al served time in the United States Army, following in his father’s footsteps as retired Air Force. Growing up in a military family, Al has moved and lived all over the world. This is where he acquired his love of travel and exploring new, exciting destinations. Lindsay, originally from the Husker state where the two met, was in school for Hospitality Management at the University of Nebraska Lincoln when we decided to purchase our first resort in Missouri. Since then, we have served as concessionaires at three different State Parks in Missouri over the last 13 years. Over the years we have gained knowledge from our businesses running cabins, motels, restaurants, marinas, swimming pools, and more!

Living and working in the Ozarks, we are used to being a seasonal business. In the off season we love to travel! We have traveled the US and abroad, and even got married in Italy in 2012. One of our favorite things about traveling to far off destinations is the delicious variety of food. We plan to bring a taste of what we have learned and loved from our travels as we reopen the Whale’s Rib Tavern this season.

We have traveled the world and worn many hats. After having our daughter in 2017, and our son just this last December, we are ready to put down roots and settle into this more than welcoming community in Downeast Maine. We fell in love with the beautiful Maine coastline and the Maine way of life. We hope to use our experience as a guide as we take on this new journey as stewards of the Pilgrim’s Inn. We will work hard to uphold the traditions and values of this historical Inn and expectations of our guests.

We hope you can join us this season as we enjoy our tranquil inn nested perfectly between the Northwest Harbor and Mill Pond on Deer Isle. We look forward to meeting everyone soon! You can check availability and book online at www.PilgrimsInn.com

  1. Thank you so much for reopening the Whale’s Rib Restaurant. We have been coming to the Pilgrim’s Inn for about 20 years and look forward to coming again this summer and enjoying starting at and eating at the inn.
